Sheila McCracken, Director, Ontario
Sheila is an adopted adult who has not reunited with any members of her birth family.
Sheila has academic experience in research pertaining to adoption issues, from adoption placement to reunification of adopted adults. She wrote her Master of Social Work Research on the Secrecy and Denial that exists in adoption as experienced by adopted adults. Sheila is familiar with the latest studies on the subject of adoption.
Professionally, Sheila is a social worker who practices based on anti-oppression and anti-racism frameworks. This has a strong impact on how Sheila examines social issues including those in adoption.
Sheila believes that legislative policies, public awareness, promotion of adoption and post adoption services are critical areas that have to be dealt with in respectful ways, acknowledging all people involved in the adoption process. |
