Intercountry adoptions of Nepalese children have been suspended since May 2007 as a result of widespread allegations of corruption and baby selling. Since then, the government has been working to tighten regulations, but it was not clear when adoptions would resume. According to recent reports, 58 adoption agencies from the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, Italy, Spain and Norway have been accredited to place children from Nepal for overseas adoption.
